Entry Form: “ACLEA’s Best Public Interest” Awards for 2017

Public Interest Category
Deadline: May 15, 2017

Eligible Projects/Nature of Award

Depending on the number of entries and product/services submitted for consideration, one or more awards will be given to organizations for outstanding commitment to the public interest as evidenced through one or more of the following activities: programs, publications, scholarships, or other related activities that support the public interest and/or provision of legal services to the poor or underrepresented.

Awards may be given for:
  • Overall achievement as evidenced by a broad-based range of public interest activities;
  • An outstanding new effort by a CLE organization that is just initiating its public interest activities;
  • An outstanding public interest program; or
  • An outstanding publication, CD-ROM, or web-based training materials devoted to public interest law.


The criteria used to determine the recipients of the award(s) include:
  1. Need for activity within the geographic area served.
  2. Number of lawyers participating.
  3. Impact on the ability of lawyers to provide representation.
  4. Use of innovative methodologies.
  5. Is the activity a joint effort with one or more legal services, public interest, or pro bono organizations?
  6. Ongoing nature of activity, if appropriate.
  7. Impact on the public
  8. The entry demonstrates effective use of the organization’s available resources, bearing in mind both the staffing and financial resources available to the organization.
