ACLEA, the Association for Continuing Legal Education, is a dynamic organization devoted to improving the performance of CLE professionals.

Those who try it, love it. Over 30% of our membership serves on committees and actively participates in the planning of programs and in the governance of the organization. Established in 1964, ACLEA is an international association. While our members are primarily from the United States and Canada, they also hail from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and Mexico. Administrators, trainers, managers, educators, publishers, programmers and meeting professionals are all members of ACLEA. This diversity in background and outlook makes ACLEA the best source for information on CLE today.

To serve the continuing legal education profession worldwide through leadership, community, education, and development.

To be the association that continuing legal education professionals turn to first for community, best practices, and  thought leadership.

Community: ACLEA fosters a sense of deep community among its members, connecting those who work in the continuing legal education field in meaningful ways.

Professionalism: ACLEA supports a high degree of professionalism among its members — with a focus on exemplary skill, best practices, and conduct.   

Volunteerism: ACLEA is committed to volunteerism as a means of supporting the profession, building expertise, forging relationships, and achieving recognition.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity Policy

ACLEA is committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment where members and contributors of all backgrounds, identities, and beliefs are respected and valued.

We will be nondiscriminatory and provide equitable opportunities for volunteering and advancement in all areas of our work. We respect the value that diverse life experiences bring to the ACLEA Executive Committee (EC) and membership. And, we will identify our own biases and work to reduce the potential impact on our personal and professional relationships.

We will integrate equity, diversity, and inclusion within our vision and mission for the benefit of those we serve.

The EC will provide informed leadership that supports equity, diversity, and inclusion in the following ways:

  • We will seek equity, diversity, and inclusion in connection with our vision and mission for the benefit of those we serve.
  • We will recognize and address inequities in our policies, programs, and services.
  • We will update and document progress on our equity, diversity, and inclusion practices.
  • We will investigate underlying assumptions that conflict with this policy.
  • We will identify systemic inequities that impact our work at the EC level and address them according to this policy and in accordance with our mission.
  • We will challenge commonly accepted notions about what constitutes strong leadership within our organization.
  • We will be transparent about equity, diversity, and inclusivity in all our interactions.
  • We will dedicate our time and resources to expanding greater equity, diversity, and inclusivity within leadership positions.
  • We will lead with respect and acceptance, and encourage all employees and volunteers to express this in their work within our organization.
  • We will provide opportunities for collaboration between Specialty Interest Groups (SIGs), committees, and members.

Members of the ACLEA community should report anything they feel is inconsistent with this policy to the EDI Committee Chair(s). Current chairs: Angelica Cesario and Adrienne Reiff.

In support of this Policy, ACLEA has created a Code of Conduct to govern the actions of individuals participating in any ACLEA activities, which includes procedures for reporting, investigation, and enforcement of its terms.
